How pixel pitch is chosen

Pixel pitch is the distance between LED pixels in millimetres. Beyond a certain distance the eye can no longer pick out individual pixels; a widely used estimate is about 3.4 m for every millimetre of pitch. For text and data the calculator keeps your closest viewers beyond that distance. For video and branding it allows viewers about twice as close.

The layout uses common 600 × 337.5 mm fine-pitch cabinets, which build a 16:9 wall when the rows and columns match. Power and weight are typical figures for this class of product; always confirm with the maker’s datasheet.

Questions

What pixel pitch do I need?

Divide your closest typical viewing distance in metres by about 3.4 for text-heavy content. At 4 m that’s roughly 1.2 mm; for video you can go coarser.

LED or LCD video wall?

LED walls are seamless, bright and can be any size, at a higher cost. LCD walls cost less and suit close viewing of detail, but show thin seams between panels.

How much power does an LED wall need?

Fine-pitch indoor LED typically uses a few hundred watts per square metre at full brightness, so most walls need one or more dedicated circuits.
